3 Steps of Interceding for Your Spouse in Marriage

All of us have experienced a relationship fail, divorce or separation in our lives at some point or another. There is no perfect person on this earth. It could of been harsh words, betrayal, breakup or even abandonment. No matter the case, these things leave scars than we’d like us to remember. After we have collected some data on the couples that we have coached; it is this one thing that we have realized that they are not doing in every day life and that is interceding on the behalf of one another. It begs the question; are your spouses really worth interceding for? Well, of course. You married him or her. It says in scripture that 2 are better than one and the vow that you both took says to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God’s holy law; and this is a solemn vow. Ever notice how sometimes that your thoughts are consumed with you.

We assume that we don’t need anyone, just Jesus. That could be true but He also would like for you to work on the behalf of Him. We don’t know the exact recipients of the book of Hebrews, but we know a few things about them. They were truly persecuted. They faced loss of income, homes. families, businesses and even life. They knew people that had gone to prison for their faith. And after bearing witness to all of this , they had to be feeling some kind of way. When the going gets tough; do not throw your spouse under the bus. Interceding on their behalf and taking it all to God is the best way to go. You say intercede; but I do not know how to do this. Well here are 3 steps on interceding on behalf of your spouse.

  1. Recognize that Jesus is always in control. Intercession are prayers in which we plead to God for the others needs and the needs of others. It requires talking to God in a way every second, minute of the day and never letting go. In Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass That whoever call on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. Interceding with prayers is warfare. The steps to calling on God should be a daily plan in our lives. Remember, we are not fighting against humans.
  2. Step on the head of Satan; in other words bind him. You have the authority. The Apostle Paul instructs us to put on our spiritual armour because our battle in this world is a “spiritual “one. Warfare that involves the power of evil and and yes the schemes of the devil. He uses trickery and ways to deceive you every minute of the day. These entities are here for accomplishing evil. Evil spirits are true and real.

Eph 6:12: For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly

3. Persist in Battle and do the work continually. We have to have a plan for battle and be armed. If you are born again both you and your spouse, then you know the enemies that you are facing. It is good to face them together and intercede for one another. Don’t let the devil come in and destroy what you two have built together. In Hebrews 4:16 it says that you can boldly come into His presence. The most important thing to do in any situation is in James 1:5 “ASK” talk to Him and He will hear your prayers. If any of you need wisdom, you should ask God, and it will be given you. The battle may be just starting or you are still fighting but “DO NOT GIVE UP or GIVE IN” because the enemy is real.

  • Our Prayer for you Today!

Heavenly Father,

We have come to you for the battle of interceding on the behalf of our spouse and we decree and declare that the anointing will continue to rest on us as long as we stay girded up in your word. You said that when two or more agree in your name that You call it done. We are asking for a miracle and healing for every situation that we call into the heavens. That if we ask in your name it shall come to pass. We pray for the nation, country, our families and most of all the spouse that we have made a vow. In Jesus name, Amen.
